The 11th hour

We saw a movie called "the 11th hour" in class today. We made notes in 3 different ways. First I am going to tell you a little bit about the movie and then you can see which different ways we used to take notes and I will also explain to you which one I liked the most and why.

The 11th hour:
The movie was about how people and nature fight each other, when really humans are a part of the nature. The movie showed us how the humans think they are different from other living creatures and exploits the world. Our generation are supossed to lead. We know the facts, we know the science, we have  the evidence. We have results that show us that the world is heading in the wrong direction. And we still do everything we do. We try to do better like, driving less car, seperate the junk. But we don't stop. The movie showed us how for example the arctic is melting and in a few centuries the ice will be gone. Something great has to be done to get the world in the right direction.

Several scientist and experts talked about this and so did the famous actor from "titanic" Leonardo Dicapiro. We need to find harmony between humans and nature. The real problem is not for example the enviroinment, but the way we think. We need to start to treat the world and the nature better, more gently.
The movie was produced and narrated by Leonardo Dicaprio.

3 different ways to take notes:
- Pen and Paper.
- By yourself on the computer.
- Google shared document.

I liked the second way to take notes the most. I liked the second one best because it is faster to write on a computer and I think it is eaiser to consentrate when you write alone. Google shared document is also a useful way to take notes because then you can see what others are writing and get ideas.

Inuits, whales, and the movie "big miracle"

The class watched a movie called «big miracle» in class a day I was not there, so I watched the movie at home. In this blog post I am going to tell you a little bit about the Inuits, Whales, and I will write a summary from the movie I saw.

Inuits:
The Inuits are a group of people living in Alaska, Greenland, Eastern Siberia, The Untited States and Canada. The Inuit-languages are classified in the Eskimo-Aleut-family, but some of them speak English, Danish or Russian.  The Inuits have traditionally been fishers and hunters and some of them still are. They hunt whales, seals, walrus, caribou, polar bears, muskoxen, birds and artic fox. They also eat a lot of naturally food like berries, grasses, roots, tubers, stems and seaweed.

They hunted from a single-passengers, covered with seal skin. This was called a qajaq. When the winter came, the Inuits had to use a dog-sled to cross the ice and they also used dogs for building things and dragging heavy stuff, like animal bones. They made clothes and shoes from animal skin, they sew it together using needles made from animal bones and the treads were made from other animal parts.

Some Inuits still live very traditionally, like they lived in the olden days. But many Inuits have moved on to more technological and modern ways to live. Some of the more modern Inuits have snow scooters and equipment’s like that.

Some fact about whales in Alaska:
There are 8 different sorts of whales that can handle the cold and icy Alaska. The 8 different sorts of whales in Alaska are called: The Beluga whales, Humpback whales, Grey whales, Orca whales, Bowhead whales, Blue whales, Right whales, and Minke whales. Like all mammals these whales breath air into their lungs, they are also warm blooded and they breast milk their children. Some of them also have a little bit of hair! The whale body is fusiform resembling the streamlined of a fish. They breathe trough blowholes on the top of the head. Whales can swim really long under water whiteout oxygen.

The largest animal on earth ever. The Blue Whale. 50 people could stand on it's tongue at the same time.
Summary of the movie "Big Miracle":

The movie is about three grey whales that are stuck in the ocean. The water has frozen early this year. The whales were on their way to a warmer place, but they did not make it in time before the water started to freeze. Whales need air in their lungs, they cannot be under water without oxygen for more than 1-2 hours. So the three whales are stuck under the ice with just a little space with unfrozen water. They stay in this little spot because they will not make it to the warmer place before they will drown.

The movie shows us how some people do not care. They think “It is just whales for god’s sake” or “People will forget about them 3 days after they are dead”. But it also shows us how someone special really cares and is passionate about what they stand for and believe in. We get an insight in how the Inuits live and how it looks like in Alaska. The Inuits we see in the movie are probably more modern Inuits and probably much different from how the Inuits were in the earlier days. This movie, "Big Miracle" also show us that when people work together, almost anything is possible!

I really liked the movie. It was interesting, exciting and I loved how they showed that people can work together, even though they are different from each other, and they can make almost anything possible!
